For Network BC (Ministry of Labour and Citizens' Services), Sa'hetxw has had a primary role helping First Nations communities prepare for the pending delivery of broadband Internet services to be facilitated by NetworkBC and provided by commercial carriers. Sa'hetxw has visited more than 50 communities, meeting with Chief and Council, health and education representatives, and community members at large. As part of the community engagement project for NetworkBC, Sa'hetxw has helped a number of communities develop community technology plans.
For Gitxaala Internet Committee, Sa'hetxw managed a community cable plant upgrade, with one-way cable television service being converted into two-way television and data service. Completed in March 2007, the upgraded service now provides Internet connectivity to 90 homes in the community. As project manager, Sa'hetxw was responsible for project budgeting, planning, and equipment specifications, procurement, and staging. Sa'hetxw also managed the work of all third-party equipment and service providers.
For the First Nations Education Steering Committee, Sa'hetxw serves as the technical support leader for BC First Nations schools supported by FNESC. In the technical support role, Sa'hetxw has managed implementation of an asset management application for the schools. For the schools, Sa'hetxw is assessing school technical infrastructures and providing plans for school network and equipment upgrades. Sa'hetxw is also assessing school broadband connectivity and working with the schools to increase broadband service capacity to the level necessary to support e-learning and school administration applications. In addition, when finished, Sa'hetxw will have assessed the video-conferencing capability more than 30 schools and prepared recommendations as necessary for video-conferencing equipment and software upgrades.
For TELUS Business Solutions, Sa'hetxw served as community liaison for the TELUS Connecting Communities program within Connecting Community Agreement protocols. Sa'hetxw worked with TELUS to create the Connecting Community Workbook including a series of business planning templates for the Workbook. Sa'hetxw had direct contact with 156 First Nations and non-Aboriginal communities in the province who were targeted for broadband connectivity under the Connecting Communities program. This contact included making presentations to the communities and community organizations and providing regular updates on the status of the installation of broadband points-of-presence in the targeted communities.
